American Ladder Institute Promotes Ladder Safety All Year Long

April 1, 2026—As another National Ladder Safety Month comes to a close, event organizers remind all ladder users that safety is a year-long commitment. The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, sponsors National Ladder Safety Month every March to remind professionals and DIYers of the importance of always being safe and mindful while using ladders.

This year was the 10th anniversary, observed with five themed weeks that focused on all aspects of ladder safety. ALI reminds all ladder users that safety begins well before the first step. There are safety considerations to be made through all phases of ladder usage: choosing the ladder, pre-use inspection, setting it up, climbing, and even during transport and storage. Helpful tips can be found all year long at https://www.laddersafetymonth.com/.

Ladder safety training sanctioned by ALI can be found at https://www.laddersafetytraining.org/. The free training includes video classes and other coursework that can stand alone or complement a company’s existing safety programs.

As National Ladder Safety Month comes to a close, ALI also reminds industry professionals that the 2026 Ladder Safety Training & Citations Survey remains open through April 17. The quick, anonymous survey helps identify trends in ladder use, training practices, injuries, and OSHA citations, with findings that help inform future safety education and industry initiatives. Complete the survey at https://lnkd.in/g_Kbz5mW.

Ladders are commonly used tools, yet they’re often taken for granted. Ladder safety remains a critical and preventable issue on jobsites across the country and at home. ALI urges contractors, construction crews, safety professionals, and DIYers to always pay attention to training, equipment inspection, and safe climbing practices.

National Ladder Safety Month is an opportunity for every ladder user to take the time to review procedures and recommit to being safe. It’s an opportunity that should be seized all year long.

Free Ladder Safety Training Available for Use by EHS/Safety Managers

March 9, 2026—The American Ladder Institute (ALI) offers free online ladder safety training that can make the professional lives of EHS managers/safety directors much easier. Loaded with training videos and other materials, the repository, available on laddersafetytraining.org, can serve as a turnkey ladder safety program or be incorporated à la carte into a company’s existing training regimen. All training is created and backed by ALI, the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry.

The materials are free and available all year long, but ALI is highlighting them now as National Ladder Safety Month approaches. Celebrating “10 Years of Safer Climbing” this year, National Ladder Safety Month is held every March and is the only program dedicated to promoting ladder safety at home and work.

ALI’s free ladder safety training can help reduce ladder-related incidents, strengthen employee awareness of common hazards, and simplify training preparation and delivery through consistent, high-quality safety instruction.

Each week of Ladder Safety Month is dedicated to a specific safety topic. This year’s schedule includes Week One: Choosing the Right Ladder; Week Two: Check Before You Climb; Week Three: Set It Up Safely; Week Four: Climb Safely, Work Safely; and Week Five: Safe Steps with Stepstools.

Ladder incidents continue to impact workers. Because ladders are an everyday tool across many industries, accessible training and refresher education can help promote safer climbing behaviors and improve overall safety awareness.

A special webinar series will be held in conjunction with National Ladder Safety Month. Information on topics and how to register for each event can be found at www.laddersafetymonth.com/participate/scheduled-events/.

Free Online Training for Safe Ladder Usage on Job Sites

March 2, 2026— Ladders are common on job sites and, like any tool, it’s easy to take them for granted. But safe ladder use requires thoughtful, intentional practices every time. When basic best practices are overlooked, incidents can occur—making refresher training a simple way to reinforce safer habits.

The American Ladder Institute (ALI) sponsors National Ladder Safety Month every March to raise awareness of safe ladder use, encourage best practices, and increase the number of people who complete Ladder Safety Training. We can already hear some saying, “Training? To climb a ladder?” To which ALI says…YES.

ALI makes many ladder safety training tools available all year long at https://www.laddersafetytraining.org/.

The site makes safety training easy, with an organized curriculum plus video and resource libraries—all completely free. It supports proper selection, care, and safe use of many ladder types, including stepladders, single ladders, extension ladders, telescoping ladders, articulated ladders, and mobile ladders. Training covers safe ladder practices for a wide range of applications, both at work and at home.

This year’s National Ladder Safety Month theme is 10 Years of Safer Climbing, acknowledging a decade since the first observance. Weekly topics include Week One: Choosing the Right Ladder; Week Two: Check Before You Climb; Week Three: Set It Up Safely; Week Four: Climb Safely, Work Safely; and Week Five: Safe Steps with Stepstools.

ALI Offers Free Ladder Safety Education and Training

February 2, 2026—Because ladders are a common tool in and around the home, the American Ladder Institute (ALI)—the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry—is preparing for its annual ladder safety awareness campaign, National Ladder Safety Month. Held every March, it is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting safe ladder use at home and at work. The 2026 observance will mark the event’s 10th anniversary with the theme, “10 Years of Safer Climbing.”

The Center for Disease Control’s (CDC’s) NIOSH program reports that each year in the U.S., more than 500,000 people are treated and about 300 people die from ladder-related injuries.1 These incidents are largely preventable when people choose the right ladder, inspect it before use, set it up properly, and follow safe climbing practices.

ALI emphasizes that many ladder-related incidents are preventable and develops its programming to help people use ladders correctly and confidently. The more people who get involved, the wider the message spreads—and the more people are reminded of simple steps that can improve safety.

At the heart of the campaign is ALI’s free Ladder Safety Training program, available year-round at www.laddersafetytraining.org. Open to all, the online repository includes training videos and resources covering key safety topics and a range of ladder types.

National Ladder Safety Month 2026 will focus on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder (Week One); Check Before You Climb (Week Two); Set It Up Safely (Week Three); Climb Safely, Work Safely (Week Four); and Safe Steps with Stepstools (Week Five).

American Ladder Institute Launches 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey

January 20, 2026—The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is conducting its 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey, the fifth iteration of a long-running effort to evaluate ladder safety training, injuries, and OSHA citations nationwide.

Previous survey reports were released in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024, creating a valuable, multi-year record of ladder safety trends that tracks ladder-related incidents, OSHA citation activity, and the effectiveness of safety training. Findings from the 2026 survey will be compiled into a comprehensive report following the close of data collection. The results will reveal preferred methods of ladder safety education as well as types of ladder-related accidents and injuries, frequency and types of ladder citations, and how rates compare to past surveys.

ALI is encouraging safety professionals, employers, and organizations that work with ladders to participate in the survey. Completion takes approximately 15 minutes, and all responses are anonymous and will not be connected to individuals or companies.

The deadline to complete the survey is March 31, 2026. Participants can access the survey here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MD7YTTN

“Results will help ALI continue to improve its ladder safety training materials, hone topics for future observances of National Ladder Safety Month, and help professionals and DIYers better understand proper ladder usage,” said Mike Van Bree, president of the American Ladder Institute.

The survey launch comes as ALI prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of National Ladder Safety Month, observed each March. This year’s theme, “10 Years of Safer Climbing,” focuses on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder (week one); Check Before You Climb (week two); Set It Up Safely (week three); Climb Safely, Work Safely (week four); and an additional week for the 10 year anniversary, Safe Steps with Stepstools (week five).

ALI provides intensive, free ladder safety training at its dedicated training website, laddersafetytraining.org. Companies can also license the training for use in their own safety programs.
