American Ladder Institute Launches 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey

January 20, 2026—The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is conducting its 2026 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey, the fifth iteration of a long-running effort to evaluate ladder safety training, injuries, and OSHA citations nationwide.

Previous survey reports were released in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024, creating a valuable, multi-year record of ladder safety trends that tracks ladder-related incidents, OSHA citation activity, and the effectiveness of safety training. Findings from the 2026 survey will be compiled into a comprehensive report following the close of data collection. The results will reveal preferred methods of ladder safety education as well as types of ladder-related accidents and injuries, frequency and types of ladder citations, and how rates compare to past surveys.

ALI is encouraging safety professionals, employers, and organizations that work with ladders to participate in the survey. Completion takes approximately 15 minutes, and all responses are anonymous and will not be connected to individuals or companies.

The deadline to complete the survey is March 31, 2026. Participants can access the survey here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MD7YTTN

“Results will help ALI continue to improve its ladder safety training materials, hone topics for future observances of National Ladder Safety Month, and help professionals and DIYers better understand proper ladder usage,” said Mike Van Bree, president of the American Ladder Institute.

The survey launch comes as ALI prepares to mark the 10th anniversary of National Ladder Safety Month, observed each March. This year’s theme, “10 Years of Safer Climbing,” focuses on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder (week one); Check Before You Climb (week two); Set It Up Safely (week three); Climb Safely, Work Safely (week four); and an additional week for the 10 year anniversary, Safe Steps with Stepstools (week five).

ALI provides intensive, free ladder safety training at its dedicated training website, laddersafetytraining.org. Companies can also license the training for use in their own safety programs.

American Ladder Institute Ramps Up National Ladder Safety Month

December 17, 2025— The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is gearing up for its annual ladder safety blitz, National Ladder Safety Month. Held every March, it is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting ladder safety at home and work. The 2026 observance will mark the event’s 10th anniversary with the theme “10 Years of Safer Climbing.”

The American Ladder Institute reminds everyone that ladder safety remains a critical and preventable issue on jobsites across the country. As such, it created National Ladder Safety Month and in 2026 the awareness campaign focuses on five key topics: Choosing the Right Ladder (week one); Check Before You Climb (week two); Set It Up Safely (week three); Climb Safely, Work Safely (week four); and Safe Steps with Stepstools (week five).

Ladders are among the most used tools in construction, yet they’re often taken for granted. ALI urges contractors, construction crews, and safety professionals to refocus attention on training, equipment inspection, and safe climbing practices. National Ladder Safety Month is an opportunity for every jobsite stakeholder to take the time to review procedures and recommit to keeping workers safe. At the heart of every campaign is ALI’s own ladder safety training, available all year long at laddersafetytraining.org. This free online repository includes videos on a range of safety topics for all types of ladders.
